Dunbar Wallace Installs Durasteel Blast Resistance Barrier
Our client, Marshdale Construction, is a specialist contractor with a reputation for delivering complex construction projects within critical healthcare environments. The Birmingham Children’s Hospital project required the installation of a fire and blast resistance barrier to provide separation between transformers. In the event of a transformer blowing out, or exploding, the barrier ensures the damage is contained, minimising the risk of a chain of explosions and power outage.
Working With Marshdale Construction to Deliver Excellence
Dunbar Wallace uses state-of-the art technology to deliver our passive fire protection systems efficiently and safely. We began by using a point cloud laser scanning survey of the two generator buildings housing the transformers. The 3D data gathered was then used to create a parametric 3D model detailing the fabrication, location and installation of the Durasteel blast barrier.
We know that time is the most precious commodity on all construction projects. That’s why we provide our clients with an innovative approach which facilitates the off-site prefabrication of Durasteel systems. This uniquely allows for a dramatic reduction of the time that has to be spent on-site. In this case we were able to reduce it from the standard 4-5 days, down to just 4 hours.
